A Little About The Leathery
Welcome to The Leathery, a hands-on leathercraft studio based in beautiful Te Horo. We run full-day workshops designed for beginners and intermediate makers alike, offering a supportive and inspiring space to explore your creativity.
Our fully equipped workshop includes everything you need – from leather sewing machines and hand tools to dyes, rivets, and heat stamps. You’ll have your own workstation, a basic tool set, and access to shared equipment. A small amount of leather and essential materials are included, with extras available to purchase.
With small class sizes (4–6 people), you’ll get plenty of guidance as you bring your ideas to life. Whether you're starting a brand-new project or finishing something from home, The Leathery is the perfect place to create, learn, and connect.
My Journey
In 1974, I discovered the sublime art of leatherworking. What began as a goal to create handmade items for sale soon became a reality. Over time, my focus shifted from crafting to teaching leatherworking skills to others. I became a qualified trainer in the early 2000s and have since welcomed over 1,500 students to my workshops. Many, inspired by the craft, have gone on to develop their own designs and projects. It is my sincere hope that you will join our growing leatherworking family.
